The Musicians path, Honni Soit Qui Mal Y Pense

The musicians path

Introductory note

Dear Reader, here are several littles pieces of music in a quite eclectic collection. I hope they will bring you the simple pleasure of a warm sunbeam in winter... As a matter of facts, acquiring a fair musical learning is not that simple, although music is a universal language. Conversely, anyone may receive the fresh drops of serenity it conveys. Mimile made his first steps on this path in march 2004, and he vivedly encourages any people whatever their level of practice. He also congratulates the ones able to practice facing a public. In this way, Jean-Yves Pello, as a full-fledged singer has kindly agreed to present on this page a significant part of a concert dedicated to finnish melodies.

Gnossienne Ethylo-Satie née Gnossienne Ethylo-Satie née

Composed in 2006, this little piece contemplates the realm of Eric Satie. Both interpretation and recording were performed by my Music Master, Alain Vay, who conveyed to me all my knowledge on music, then leading me on the musician's path. Then, I pay my tribute to him with this musical page in obiterdictum.

A little bit of words about the interpret

Jean-Yves had his heart in Sarthe before being adopted by the country. He received an exhaustive musical training awarded with a first prize in tonic solfa, and a first prize as regards the upper degree in piano within the frame of "Union des Conservatoires du Val-de-Marne et de l'UFAM". Since his early childhood he practicized choral singing before integrating the Master course of Caroline Dumas with the "Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris". Beside earning his life as a medical writter, he was deeply involved in rearing his four boys. He joined the choir of the Orchestre de Paris in 2002, where he practiced until 2006. Jean-Yves is especially fond of chamber music, as one has to bring the best so as to combine both heart and talent, in concert and for the concert. He also appears in solo for recitals and oratorio concerts: Dixit Dominus and Magnificat (Vivaldi), Cantate 21 (J.S.Bach), the Mozart Coronation Mass, The part of the Evangelist in the Nativity History (Schütz). His signifacant scenic experience allowed him to portray: Danilo in "La Veuve Joyeuse (Lehar)", The Abbé Bridaine in "Les Mousquetaires au Couvent (Varney)", Morales and the Dancaïre in "Carmen (Bizet)", then Gasparo in "Rita (Donizetti)".

About the finnish composers

Oskar Merikanto(1868-1924) was deeply involved in the musical life of his country. He is considered as a prominent actor as regards defining the finnish musical identity. Pianist, organist, and a notorious virtuoso widely admired due to his numerous concerts around his country, he was also a famous conductor and creator as he realized sundry Sibelius scores. As a composer he dealt with all kinds of musics, and he authored the first opera in finnish language "Pohjan Naiti (1908)". He composed remakable melodies, always ready to perform their accompaniment. His aesthetics is marked with a touch of german postromanticism since the german repertoire was quite appreciated in Northen Europe.

As Oskar Merikanto, Toivo Kuula (1883-1918) practiced as a composer and a conductor. His music is full of passion and inspired from nature and finnish people. His talent and character should have brought him as a prominent composer, but infortunately he was striken with an early death as he was 35-year old. The circonstances of his death remain unclear with a stray bullet during the finnish civil war before the independance of the country. He didn't get enough of his time to realize wide pieces of music, and his symphonie remained unfinished. However his notorious melodies are widely appreciated.
